General Overview:

Public Relations is a field that serves to maintain, develop, and protect the public image for high-profile people, commercial businesses and organizations, and non-profit associations or programs. PR practitioners communicate to the public and media how companys work. These departments assist customers if they have any problems with the company. They are usually the most helpful departments, as they exist to show the company at their best.

PR also helps the company to achieve its full potential. They provide feedback to the company from the public. This usually takes the form of research regarding what areas the public is most happy and unhappy with.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Compile monthly press reports
  • Compile retail press books and update quarterly
  • Generate ideas for press releases
  • Create press kits
  • Assist in celebrity relations
  • Assist in brand partnerships
  • Event coordination

Required Experience and Qualifications:

  • No degree required.
  • Helpful: media, communication, journalism and business-related education or experience helps
  • Technical skills: Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, Outlook, Photoshop, Adobe Acrobat
  • Other skills: Writing, writing, writing
  • High level written and verbal communication skills
  • Professional Experience: Prior media experience helpful, journalism = extra credit. Internship in PR= mandatory.
  • Must be media literate
